Lesley Foundation Receives $4.2 Million Grant

THE LESLEY FOUNDATlON RECEIVES A $4.2 MILLION GOVERNMENT GRANT TO CREATE SAN MATEO COUNTY'S FIRST AFFORDABLE ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY

San Mateo County's Low-Income Seniors Will Soon Have a More Affordable Option for Care

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded The Lesley Foundation, a local non-profit organization that provides affordable housing for the elderly, with a $4,276,091 grant under HUD's Assisted Living Conversion Program. The funds will be used to convert 24 apartments of the existing 164 independent, affordable apartments for the elderly at Bonnie Brae Terrace in Belmont CA, one of its four residences, into apartments that will provide affordable assisted living and enriched services to the occupants.

This is the first grant of this type to be awarded in the State of California and as such brings needed attention to the fact that there is no affordable assisted living available to the elderly in most states in this country including California. The Lesley Foundation is a very small, community-based organization with an innovative Board of Directors, a very committed staff and strong community support.
